When Alexander approached the east zone of the Hydaspes, currently known as Jhelum River, Porus was all set for the war with his army men. The fight took in the year 326 BC in the month of May. One of the biggest fights in World History is the fight between Porus and Alexander the Great.
So it is not convincing that Porus is a son of Anusuya or somewhere related to Takshashila Dynasty.
On the contrary, according to Greek history, the King of Taxila (Takshashila) had invited Alexander the Great to fight with Porus as it was said that Porus was the biggest rival of the Taxila King at that point of time. As said that no historical evidence has been found in support of this information, it could be a fictional fact that the makers have used in the drama. According to that drama, Porus was a son of Taxila (Takshashila) Princess Anusuya and Puru Empire King Bamni. In recent times, a periodic drama in an Indian Television Channel Sony TV India on Porus has shown his early life and family. As mentioned that none of the historical facts had any information about Porus’ early life, information regarding his parents and family is unknown as well. During the reign of Porus, Dhana Nanda of Magadha Dynasty had come on power after his father Padma Nanda died. Nanda is said to be a little older than Porus. When Porus fought with Alexander the Great he only had 85 war elephants while Nanda had 6,000. According to the history, King of Nanda Empire had 2, 00,000 infantry while Porus has only 30, 000. On the power front, the King of Nanda was much more powerful than Porus. So it can be said that he was born sometimes before 340 BC. However the King was compared to the King of Nanda Empire, Padma Nanda, to get some details about his early life. There is no such information regarding the birth year of Porus or anything related to his early life. The name ‘Bharatvarsh’ was given to this country after the name of the Puru King Bharat. Puru King Bharat was the direct ancestor of Porus. Hence the dynasty was somewhere related to the Vedic civilisation. It has been said that the Pauravas Dynasty was mentioned in the Rig Vedas. The region was located in between the rivers namely Chenab and Jhelum. Now Punjab was the region where Pauravas had their empire. Porus was mentioned in the history of ancient Greece as well for his bravery and clash with Alexander the Great. Not only the bravest king but Porus was also famous for his gratitude and power of earn respect from his own enemies. His clash with Alexander the Great was one of the biggest event in Indian History. He was well known as the bravest king of India of all time. King Porus is one of the important names in World History.
